Happy Trails uses mechanized equipment to remove the majority of the organic material, small trees and scrub to provide a solid and sustainable trail tread. Clay is some-times taken from beside the trail to harden the surface, these 'borrow pits' are then covered with the organic scrub.
Switchbacks, full bench and grade reversals are built into the trail for water control; low lying areas are avoided as are fall line trails.
Hand finishing may be performed by landowners, volunteers or our staff. We provide Pulaski Axes and Macleod Trail tools and the necessary training.
